God has given us common sense as a stabilizer to keep us in the middle of the road in our thinking. Ideas that are contrary to common sense are wrong whether they are literary education or Bible interpretation. Therefore, to learn how to use common sense is the best education one can have.
TO USE COMMON SENSE, ONE MUST LEARN TO REASON FROM CAUSE TO EFFECT. True reasoning will lead one to God; He is the first cause. God is not the effect of any cause. There cannot be an effect without a cause to produce it, there cannot be design without a designer or creation without a creator.
1. THE DEVIL'S TRAP. The Devil is a strategist. When Darwin wrote the book on "The Origin Of Species" in 1859, the Devil set a trap to catch the youth of the world. That book paved the way for the evolution theory to be taught in the schools. Now this generation is in the Devil's trap. Now the youth have to go to school and they have to listen to the evolution teaching. The educational system of our day is preparing the world for the coming of the Anti-¬Christ. The Devil invented the evolution theory to offset what the Bible teaches about the creation of the world. It would be difficult to go through school today and not come out an atheist, but if one knows how to use common sense, he will reason from cause to effect and refuse to believe the evolution theory. The evolution theory is the tool the Devil uses to destroy faith in the Bible.
2. THE EVOLUTION THEORY IS NOT SENSI¬BLE. It is built on the idea that acquired characteristics can be passed on to future gen¬erations. If that were true, all of our defects would be passed on to our children. If a man got his arm cut off, his son would come with one arm. Doctor Weismann cut tails off of mice trying to get a mouse without a tail, but the little mice all came with long tails. He discovered that acquired characteristics cannot be passed on to others. It is called "The Weismann Law."
3. SOME OF THE TEACHING IN THE CHRIS¬TIAN RELIGION IS NONSENSE. a) The Trinity doctrine is not sensible because it teaches three separate distinct eternal Spirits in a God-¬Head. It teaches these three Spirits are co-equal, co-eternal, and co-existent. It teaches one of these Spirits is the eternal Father and that another one is the eternal Son of the eternal Father. That is nonsense because it makes the Son as old as his father; that kind of teaching, makes unbelievers out of those who think. Thinkers will not believe God's Son is as old as his Father. The Trinity theory teaches three first causes instead of one and it teaches three Gods instead of one. When Trinitarians baptize their converts, they use three titles instead of the one proper name. They say what Jesus said but they do not do what He said. The whole thing is a mess. Paul said, "God gave His Son the name which is above every name." (See Phil. 2:9-11 “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”) Paul also said, "Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus." (See Col. 3: 17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”) That includes water baptism. Compare Matt. 28:19 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” with Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”. Those who had these titles said over them when they were baptized should be rebaptized in Jesus' name. (See Acts 19:1-5 “And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.”) b) THE ERADICATION DOCTRINE IS NONSENSE because sanctified parents trans¬mit the sin nature to their children. They could not transmit the sin nature if it was eradicated. c) THE PENTECOSTAL DOCTRINE ON SPEAK¬ING WITH TONGUES IS NONSENSE. It teaches one must speak with tongues to have the Holy Ghost. If they knew how to reason from cause to effect, they would know that one must have the Holy Ghost before he can speak with tongues. Tongues don't produce the Holy Ghost; the Holy Ghost produces tongues. Common sense is a real jewel.
4. THOSE WHO STUDY THE BIBLE ARE BOUND TO RUN INTO PROBLEMS. That is not surprising because we only have translations of the original Bible. The writings of the Apostles are lost, therefore, we cannot expect translations to be perfect. The oldest manuscript of the Apostles' writings only dates back to the first part of the fourth century. That means 300 years is as close as we can get to their original writings. The translators have to translate from the copies of the copies, that the copiests made of the early manuscripts.
5. THE EMPEROR CONSTANTINE ORDERED 318 CHURCH BISHOPS TO NICAEA TO DISCUSS THE GOD-HEAD. He ordered them to stay in session until they came to a decision as to the relationship of Jesus Christ to God. They debated the question 42 days and decided God is a Trinity.
6. JESUS SAID, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like unto leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened." (See Matt. 13:33) The woman represents the Roman Catholic Church, the meal represents the original Bible that was inspired by God. The leaven represents the Trinity doctrine that was invented at the Nicene Council, 325 A.D.
7. IN THE YEAR 331 A.D., CONSTANTINE OR¬DERED FIFTY COPIES MADE OF THE THEN EXISTING MANUSCRIPT. Forty-eight copies are lost, only the Sinaitic and the Vatican are left. No doubt, the Bishops' decisions got into the Greek language when these manuscripts were made. Most of the mistakes in the New Testa¬ment seem to be in the Greek language. I think most of the Scriptures on the God-Head were tampered with at the Nicene Council. The Bishops claimed to be inspired by God to in¬terpret them. The Catholic church says, "The church made the Bible, but the Bible did not make the church."
8. WHEN STUDYING THE OLD TESTAMENT, you will discover some mistakes made by the translators. Here are a few examples:
a) In Job 1 :21, Job is supposed to say, "Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither." It should say, naked shall I go into eternity.
b) Isa. 1 :18 says, "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow." Sins are not made white. The word they should be changed to you.
c) II Kings 8:26 2 (“Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.”)says Ahaziah was 22 years old when he began to reign, but II Chron. 22:22 (“Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.”) says he was 42 when he began to reign. Twenty-two is, no doubt, right for his father died at the age of 40. (See II Kings 8: 17-24) Had he been 42, he would have been two years older than his father.
d) II Kings 24:8 (“Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.”) says Jehoischin was 18 years old when he began to reign over Jerusalem, but II Chron. 36:9 (“Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.”) says he was 8 years old when he began to reign.
e) I Kings 4:26 (“And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.”) says Solomon had 40,000 horses but II Chron. 9:25 (“And Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen; whom he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.”) says he had 4,000. Forty thousand is, no doubt, right because he had 12,000 horsemen to take care of his horses.
f) DID GOD MAKE A MISTAKE WHEN HE MADE MAN? (See Gen. 6:6, 7 “And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.”) The King James Version says, "It repented the Lord that He had made him." Goodspeed trans¬lation says, "The Lord regretted that He made him." The Revised Standard Version says, "The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth." The Septugent Bible says, "God was grieved that He had made man on the earth." Did God ever make a mistake or do anything He was sorry of? When you discover these mistakes, use common sense and realize it was the fault of careless copiests that copied the early manuscripts. The Original manuscript was perfect; it was inspired by God.
9. WHEN STUDYING THE NEW TESTAMENT, you will find it does not always mean what it says, but it always means what it is talking about. Sometimes, words have to be added or changed to get the original writer's thought. Here are a few examples.
a) II Cor. 5:18 (“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;”) KJV says, "AII things are of God." It should say, all of these things are of God.
b) Matt. 13:38 (“The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;”) says, "The field is the world." It should say, the field represents the world.
c) Matt. 26:26-28 (“And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”) says, "The bread is my body and the cup is my blood." It should say, the bread and the cup represent my body and blood.
d) John 6:53 says, "Except ye eat the flesh of the son of man and drink His blood, ye have no life in you." No Christian ever ate a bite of Jesus' flesh or drank a drop of His blood. It should say, except ye eat of that which is in the flesh of the son of man and drink of that which is in His blood, ye have no Spiritual Life in you. God was in Christ's flesh and blood. (See II Cor. 5:19 “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”) It is God the Spirit that we eat and drink of.
e) In John 16:13 (“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”) the word He should be changed to Ye. In John 20:23 (“Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.”), the word Ye should be changed to He. The apostles could not remit sins, only God can do that.
10. WHEN ONE STUDIES THE BIBLE, he should ask three questions. a) Who is doing the talking? b) Who is he talking to? c) What is he talking about? The student should try to find out what the writer is talking about. The original writings were inspired by God. (See II Tim. 3:16 (“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”) and II Pet. 1:21 (“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”)) Therefore, the original writings were perfect.
11. TRUTH MUST BE REVEALED BY THE SPIRIT. (See John 14:26 (“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”) and 16:13 (“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”)) John 16:13 should say, "When He the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth; for Ye shall not speak of Yourself, but whatsoever Ye shall hear that shall Ye speak, for He will show you things to come." The Apostles were going to do the speaking and the Holy Ghost would tell them what to say. There was no other God telling the Holy Ghost what to say.
12. ALL OF GOD'S PEOPLE ARE IN THE CHRISTIAN RACE, but some are further along than others. Some have more truth than others. We are running the Christian race, not to see who can get to Heaven first, (See Heb. 12: 1 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,”), but to see how much we can do for God and His work. We will be rewarded or ranked, when we get to Heaven, according to our works while we are here. (See Matt. 16:27 (“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.”), II Tim. 4:8 (“Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”), and Rev. 22:12 (“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”) Paul said he was after the head prize. (See Phil. 3: 14 “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”) All Christians are in the same body or church, but we are not all in the same rank in the body. "There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead." (See I Cor. 15 :41, 42) When Jesus comes, we will be rewarded or ranked, according to the way we walked in the light and worked to advance God's work.
