The Campaign

2/22/12    Mailed out my first campaign fundraising letters today. Here's an example of what I sent out:
Dear Friend,
I am running for Floyd County Commissioner this year in District 2. I have learned so much in the past four years as the chairman of the Republican Party. Now, Cheryl and I feel that it is time for me to run again. I hope you will join my campaign with your prayers and support for me in May.
I want you to know that I firmly believe in the core principles of our Party and will follow those principles if elected. We believe in smaller government and government closest to the people. That makes this election for Commissioner very important. I believe in fiscal accountability and controlling taxes to reasonable rates. That’s critical since the current out-of-control spending by our federal government will significantly affect how we live every day and what kind of funds we have in our budgets to use. I am strongly against governments spending money in deficit and creating huge debts. We each have to personally balance our spending and income….governments should do the same.
I will be running this year in the May primary against two other very fine Republicans. Because of this, I am starting early to raise the kind of funds I will need for campaign expenses. We will run a strong campaign through November. I will spend my own money as well as contributions because I believe no one should be asked to contribute to something the candidate won’t contribute to himself. In the end, I can promise to you that if elected, we will have a stronger group of commissioners and a local county government that is responsive to the electorate.
I hope you’ll consider helping me run this campaign. I am including an addressed envelope should you choose to contribute. Any amount is appreciated. I need all levels of contributors from $10 to $1,000. We also need volunteers to make phone calls, go door to door and help display signs just prior to the election days. I hope you’ll consider helping us in any way you can.
Effective, responsive and responsible government is what I intend to bring to Floyd County. I hope you’ll help us achieve victories, first in the primary May 8th and then in the general election November 6th. I believe this is going to be a great year for Republicans in 2012. I hope you’ll VOTE FOR DAVE.
     God bless,
     Dave Matthews

2/18/12    The media effort is well under way. The web site is up and running at www.dave4floyd.com, we have a facebook account at Dave for Floyd County Commissioner and emails are going strong (get on my list by emailing me at daveweb1@aol.com). I hope you'll join the team by joining all three!

2/15/12    I hope to use this section as a sort of Blog to document where the campaign has gone from the beginning. This is the beginning. We actually filed to run for County Commissioner February 10th. We will be opposed in the Primary by two other very fine Republicans May 8th and Election Day is November 6th. I know it is cliche to say, but this year will definitely be hugely important to our County, our State and the Nation. I hope you'll stand with us to win victories this year!
